And Highway 20 was fairly dry earlier today.
OR 99W in South Corvallis is now closed at the OR 34 South Bypass due to high water. Motorists wishing to travel south on OR 99W are being redirected to OR 99E south to Junction City.
Here's the official word from the Corvallis School District: The Corvallis School District will be closed Friday, Jan. 20. All schools and the district office will be closed. Staff will not report to work and all Friday evening activities also are cancelled.
Crescent Valley High School will remain open as an emergency evacuation shelter as needed.
The decision to close the district was made by district officials Thursday night after consulting with First Student Transportation and considering local officials’ declaring a state of emergency for Benton County and the City of Corvallis.
The likelihood of south Corvallis being impacted by flooding on Friday and continued problems in the Conifer and Lancaster neighborhoods would no doubt affect students’ attendance throughout the district, Superintendent Erin Prince said.
“We also have staff who could have problems traveling to work through flooded areas,” Prince said. “We decided it would be better to err on the side of caution to keep our students and staff safe.
“I am truly grateful for the collaborative spirit showed by county, city and district staff in responding to the extraordinary challenges we faced today,” Prince said.
